After two disappointing films, will it be 3rd time lucky for the legendary HALSTON

Will it be 3rd time lucky for Halston?    One of the most successful fashion designers who was such a phenomenon in the 197Os  has so far been so badly served by two less-than-adequate.  First Ultrasuede : In Search of Halston in 2013 and then in 2019 Frédéric Tcheng disappointing and rather clumsy Halston.  (You can read reviews of both of these here on Queerguru)

Now it’s the turn of uber-queer-producer Ryan Murphy who has committed to telling the story of this gay fashion icon who sadly died of AIDS at the peak of his career.  Murphy has established an impressive crew and cast led by director Daniel Minahan (Game of Thrones) and a host of writers. With Ewan Mcgregor taking the title role, who  is joined by

Krysta Rodriguez -”Liza Minnelli”
Rebecca Dayan – “Elsa Peretti”
Bill Pullman – “David Mahoney”
Gian Franco Rodriguez – “Victor Hugo”
David Pittu – “Joe Eula”
Sullivan Jones – “Ed Austin”
Rory Culkin – “Joel Schumacher”
Kelly Bishop – “Eleanor Lambert”
Vera Farmiga – “Adele”

Murphy has a long list of very successful TV movies and series, but there is always the worry that as his work is getting quite formulae of late, that poot Halston’s legend may still be badly served.

Screening on Netflix, om May 14th. so not too long to wait and see.  Meanwhile here are a series of stylish polaroids taking during filing
