Queerguru received a sad missive from one of our readers who was bummed about being dropped from participating in this years Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade after being a fixture of it for the past 10 years. He understood that the need to shrink the Parade because of the whole CoVID pandemic, but was still annoyed that he and his twin brother were not even allowed to keep their Jolly Green Giant outfits.
Macys however should have known better than deny two gay men a fancy dress costume, even unflattering ones like these.
Anyhow, these two Queerguru readers losses were at least supplemented by the much bigger gain (!) of the The Lesbian and Gay Big Apple Corps (LGBAC) very first appearance in the parade.
Macys started the Parade 96 years ago and the Band has been in existence in NY for 31 years but even though they had applied to take part for years this was the very first time Macys said YES!
The marching band’s artistic director Marita Begley told NBC New York: “There are families out there in middle America, throughout the country, that are going to see this and it’s going to give hope to young people who are questioning their sexuality, their gender.”
And what did they chose to play? Abba’s Dancing Queen of course.

P.S. We have just heard that our two disappointed readers are now thinking of joining the Band for next year. There is just the small matter of them being totally tone deaf
