(A very surprised) Sir Elton John awarded The National Humanities Medal for all his work in the fight against AIDS

After Elton John performed live on the White House South Lawn  in  “A Night When Hope and History Rhyme”  concert he was presented with the National Humanities Medal by President and Dr. Biden.  It was awarded in recognition of all the phenomenal work he has spearheaded in the fight against AIDS.

A very surprised, and delighted Sit Elton said “I’m so honoured to receive the National Humanities Medal from President Biden during such a spectacular event at the White House  “It’s emotional for me to be recognised for the achievements of Elton John AIDS Foundation. We are striving for a future where people of all races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, and gender identities have the opportunity to live free from AIDS, stigma, injustice and maltreatment – and I’m so grateful recognition likes this brings us a step closer to making that a reality.”

Sir Elton established the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF)  a nonprofit organization, in 1992 in the United States and 1993 in the United Kingdom to support innovative HIV prevention, education programs, direct care, and support services to people living with HIV. It has raised over $600 million to support HIV-related programs in fifty-five countries.

The National Humanities Medal is an American award that annually recognizes several individuals, groups, or institutions for work that has “deepened the nation’s understanding of the humanities, broadened our citizens’ engagement with the humanities, or helped preserve and expand Americans’ access to important resources in the humanities.”
