A new Exhibit is celebrating “Physique Pictorial” Bob Mizer’s legendary magazine that pioneered naked male photography

Bob Mizer was a legendary photographer and filmmaker who, in the mid-20th century,  focused on images of naked male physiques pushing the boundaries of homoerotic content. He photographed thousands of men, building a collection that includes nearly two million different images and thousands of films and videotapes.  He established the influential studio, the Athletic Model Guild in 1945, and he published  the now cult magazine  Physique Pictorial

San Francisco is home to The Bob Mizer Foundation an educational non-profit organization that is dedicated to preserving and promoting Mizer’s legacy. They are currently hosting a new Exhibition that showcases Mizer’s contributions to the art of physique photography. It delves into the historical and cultural contexts that shaped Physique Pictorial, underscoring his role in the evolution of this artistic genre.

The Bob Mizer Foundation in San Francisco is hosting “Physique Pictorial: The Manufacture, Craft, and Art of
Mizer’s Magazine,” an exhibition from October 2023 to late spring 2024.
