A CANDID CONVERSATION WITH KATE CLINTON

Since Kate Clinton gave up her summer performing gig in PTown a couple of years ago she’s been missed.  She is still resident in town and can be seen whizzing by on her bike sitting up erect in Margaret Hamilton fashion.  She always accosts Queerguru with a very warm and loud ‘Hello Darling“.  Not because we have ever shared anything approaching an intimate relationship, but essentially because she genuinely doesn’t seem to remember names. Well. ours at least.

Kate describes herself as “a faith-based, tax-paying, America-loving political humorist and family entertainer.”  But she is a whole lot more than that.  Her quick-witted take on the absurdity of world events is delivered at breakneck speed and is both hilarious and shockingly accurate.  Why bother reading newspapers when Kate has already dissected and edited the parts you need to know?

Watching her perform with an LGBTQ audience, often made up mainly of women, is a sheer joy to behold.  They are torn between genuine affection for this iconic lesbian and the fact that her politics are way to the left of most of them.  In one of the interviews Queerguru had with Kate, she recounted how during a piece about the Iraq War, a whole row of lesbians stood up and walked out.  When we asked her how she reacted, she replied straight back …I just pretended they had all gone to the bathroom

Now we may not be able to see her as much in the flesh these days as we used to in Ptown but she is as busy as ever. Still working hard as a multi-talented and multi-platformed author, actress, stand-up humorist, impure thought leader, activist, fundraising auctioneer and social mediatrix.

If you have missed her as much as we have, then you should that Women On The Net are having a comprehensive one-on-one online interview with this amazing woman on Memorial Day Weekend
