When you summer in Provincetown the gay mecca at the tip of Cape Cod you will know that each week has its own ‘theme’ e.g. ‘gay parents week, carnival week etc etc It’s been a tradition for so long no one has any idea who started it, but whoever they are they had a wicked sense of humor. July 4th week is Circuit Boy Week when all the young (ish) very fit gym buff bodies come to the party trying desperately not to have a single meal the whole week, probably relying on all those ‘health supplements ‘(!) It makes every full-time resident feel very old and very overweight.
And then immediately after the last Underwar Paty is over they all disappear as if by magic, and the Town welcomes Bear Week. The irony is not lost on us as all those skinny twinks are replaced by a whole cross-section of bulky hirsute men who love both their clan and their food. This is the one week in the whole season when these visitors, known for all their really happy dispositions, infuse the town with such joy and good humor. And you can join in without having to be one of the various types of bears (there are Chubs, Cubs, Otter, Panda, Polar, Wolf etc. for the rest see HERE)
The organizers of Provincetown Bear Week go all out with a jam-packed schedule for every single day. Here then are
