Losing weight seems to be the most important task once we hit our late 20s, as before that we don’t actually think about it. When we hit our 30s, we realize that this task is getting more and more difficult and challenging, and that our metabolism is not the same as it used to be. What happens when we turn 40 then? Imagine how difficult this task might be then, not only because our bodies are older, but because we are not used to exercising and using weight, and it is very difficult to teach your body new tricks at that age. However, it is not impossible, and all it takes is a bit of hard work and devotion. So, take a look at a couple of ideas on how to lose weight if you are in your 40s:
Think of why you want to lose weight
If you really want to commit yourself to this journey, you need to be 100% sure that you actually want to lose weight. In order to do this, it would be best to write down the reasons why you want to lose weight now and if it really is worth it. Since you haven’t been doing that before, it is very probable that you have a very clear and valid reason, but it won’t hurt to remind yourself of it. You need that mental awakening that will serve as motivation.
Of course, mind your diet
Suffice it to say that you really need to pay attention to the things you eat and drink. This is a piece of advice that is served to every single person on the planet when they are trying to lose weight, but it applies to you even more. Why? Because your metabolism slows down over the years, which makes it hard for your body to process junk food. Eating healthy is a must in this case.
Mind the nutrients
Speaking of food, apart from paying attention to what you are eating, you need to make sure that your body gets all the important nutrients in order to perform well. Losing weight doesn’t mean not eating as it can backfire and make you gain even more weight. If your body sees that you are not giving it food, it will start storing the food that you do give it, thus creating fat. In order to prevent this, and if you realize that you are not including an important nutrient, you can always turn to nutritional supplements that will help you in this process. You can also combine this with your healthy meals and dishes and you will make the most of it. Another good idea would be to shift to a certain dietary plan, such as chrono, keto or intermittent fasting. Of course, before you opt for this, make sure to talk to your personal trainer or a nutritionist.
Pay attention to the size of the portions
Remember that the size of your portions can make or break your weight loss. It doesn’t really matter what you eat, you simply have to cut back on portions and pay attention to the calorie intake. The calorie needs vary from person to person, so it is very important to see your nutritionist who will make your dietary plan and tell you what you need to eat and how much. This is a crucial step so don’t take it for granted. The best plate ratio is the following one: 1/4 of your plate should be protein, 1/2 fruits or vegetables and 1/4 carbs.
Don’t forget to stay active
Last but certainly not least, do not forget to stay active at all times. This doesn’t only mean going to the gym and exercising when you have free time. It also means staying active in moments when you don’t necessarily have to. For example, if your work is in walking distance (up to 45 minutes), use your feet rather than your car. Also, use the stairs anytime you can instead of the elevator.
So, can we all agree that it is not difficult to lose your weight in your 40s? Okay, it is not really easy, but anything is possible with strong will and devotion, and since you want to lose weight now, we believe you do have that. Good luck!
