15 LESBIAN BARS LEFT IN THE US :Join The Fight Back

We knew that the loss of queer spaces was worrying before the Pandemic, but this latest news is nothing less than horrifying. We appreciate that all small businesses are having to fight for survival as long as the Lockdown continue, but Lesbian Bars seem be amongst those suffering most.

THERE ARE NOW ONLY 15 LESBIAN BARS LEFT

That’s down from a peak  of over 200, and even taking into account the changing habits and lifestyles of the LGBTQ community , we still need these safe spaces for all queer women.

We are however a community of fighters that refuse to just role over an play dead, and help is at hand in the form of   Lesbian Bar Project .  They have started by running a 30-day initiative in partnership with the Fractured Atlas arts organisation and Jägermeister’s ongoing  #SaveTheNight campaign to raise a pool of money to see each bar through the pandemic. They will ensure that donations received through the site will be split evenly between participating bars, with donations being accepted through November 26.

Their website says “With the support of our community, we can make sure these bars receive not only the financial assistance they need but the reverence they deserve. When our history isn’t protected, we must protect it ourselves..  As these spaces aim to be inclusive of all individuals across the diverse LGBTQIA+ community, the label lesbian belongs to all people who feel it empowers them.”
