Lindsay Kemp, who died in 2018 at the grand old of age was a celebrated British dancer, actor, teacher, mime artist, and choreographer. Known best for his stunning production of Flowers, a mime and music show based on Jean Genet‘s novel Our Lady of the Flowers, in which he played the lead role of ‘Divine’.
Kemp’s work was outrageous, provocative and exceptionally queer. Because of that critics were often hostile of him and his work, but gay audiences worldwide totally adored him and all his avant garde pieces. He went on to become a mentor to many artists such as David Bowie and Kate Bush.
If you never got to see Kemp perform , now is your chance as the Dance on Camera Festival presented annually with Film at Lincoln Center is showing one of his films.
