The Edith in the title of this movie is the creation of German actor/writer/director Ades Zabel who has a quite a cult following in Berlin’s BKA Theater where ‘she’ usually performs with her Company in full drag.
In this micro-budget comedy Edith and her two best friends Brigitte “Biggy” Wuttke (Biggy van Blond) and Jutta Hartmann (Bob Schneider) decide that as none of them have any plans that they should spend Christmas Eve together.
The evening centers around a disastrous dinner in Edith’s apartment where she microwaves a goose that she had bought at a gas station and served up with cheap nasty red wine. It is all played for laughs which sadly are never really forthcoming.
They are unexpectedly joined by Biggy’s mother Emma (also played by Zabel) who is dragging along six year old Ilonka (played by a grown man) who is the daughter who Biggy had abandoned after giving birth. Then the whole thing just develops into one long very unfunny farce.
Maybe something got lost in translation but the sight of these alleged middle-aged German Fraus who spend the entire night taking cheap shots at each other just make this one badly cliched dreary movie that no-one should really waste their time on, let alone their Christmas Eve.
