The good thing about J C Calciano’s latest take on hapless gay men struggling to find true love (but not nothing as deep as the meaning of life) is that within 10 minutes you know the whole story, give or take the odd line of embarrassing dialogue, and there is really no need to have to sit through the remaining 80 minutes.
Myles is a 25 year old handsome successful LA Lawyer who sets ridiculously high standards in his search for a fairytale Prince Charming, and then throws himself at them on the first date which usually ends before it starts. Brody is a muscle bound hunky Policeman and is, for some unexplainable reason, Myles best friend but he is happy just searching through all the other subscribers on Grindr for a different man every night. After yet another bad date for Myles, Brody tries to cheer him up by saying that if neither of them are in relationships at the advanced age of 35 years old, then as a back up plan they will hook up with each other in a loving monogamous relationship. The deal is signed and sealed on a napkin, and hey voila that’s the entire story.
The ‘pity party’ for two that makes up the bulk of this unfunny comedy is annoying to say the least. It’s an excuse for an endless parade of shirtless men and also for a wise-cracking girl pal to try and play cupid to Myles and Brody to speed things up a bit. With a script as flat as Brody’s washboard stomach and more cliched stereotypes than any daytime soap opera, you will probably be as dispirited as the two men are meant to be when the 10 Years is up. But if watching two young handsome succesful men just continually whine about how rotten their lives are is your idea of fun, then you’ll really like this one.
