Queerguru’s Ris Fatah reviews ALL YOU NEED a German queer TV series as good as Queer As Folk

All You Need – Everything You Feel is a wonderful new queer drama series based in Berlin. We follow a group of gay friends as they take on life, love, and relationships.

Handsome medical student Vince (Benito Bause) lives with his best friend, web designer Levo (Arash Marandi). Both are twenty-somethings and living their best queer lives, making the most of Berlin’s legendary nightlife. Neither man has ever had a long-term relationship and they are both happy that way. Then Levo meets and falls in love with Tom (Mads Hjulmand), a gorgeous 40-year-old professional who is married and has a 15 year old son, Nick (Dennis Hofmeister). Tom ends up leaving his wife for Levo and they move in together into Tom’s lovely house in suburban Berlin. This upsets the dynamic between Vince and Levo and the two have to recalibrate their friendship. Meanwhile, Vince meets lean, blonde fitness coach Robbie (Frederic Brossier) – sexy, brash, and with a mysterious dark side. The four men hang out with each other and their girlfriend Sarina (Christin Nichols), and navigate their somewhat complex, touching relationships with each other, each person dealing with their own hang-ups and identity issues.

Director Benjamin Gutsche combines great, diverse casting and light-hearted, yet serious, storylines and takes us on a journey that will leave you wanting to know more about these guys. Beautiful, realistic cinematography showcases another, less obvious, side to Berlin and also makes both the nightclub and bedroom scenes feel authentic – something that is often hard to achieve. The sex scenes are both warm and humorous. A wide range of themes are covered over the 5 episodes of series 1, including both casual and overt homophobia and racism, monogamy, sex-positivity, infidelity, domestic violence, parental relationships, trust, past lives and identity. Although set in Berlin, viewers across the world will connect with these guys.  If you loved Russell T Davis’ legendary 1999 drama series  Queer As Folk  or Michael Lannan’s 2014 series Looking, then this is for you. Highly recommended.
