Queerguru’s Jose Mayorga reviews H.I.M. a tale of self-discovery and acceptance in a kind of hybrid series-film format.

.

H.I.M. tells the story of Kendall (Rahim Brazil), the gay son of mother Monica (Mimi Fletcher)  that accepts him but does not allow him or others to refer to his sexual preferences, in her own words, bringing the gay thing to church she works at may cost her friends and her job.  She needs the church to survive and cover the tuition.  Both, mother and son, attend Sunday service until Kendall gives up,  and chooses to have a radio program to preach at a Christian radio station. He falls in love with Tristan (Desmond Fletcher) whom he met at church where he plays in the band.

H.I.M. also tells the story of Damien (Brandon Karson)  his college life on campus narrated in dialogues and monologues addressed directly to the camera, which turns into a simile of a stream of consciousness.

Damien’s efforts to have his eyes glued to his books are in vain,  he rather stares at the shirtless torsos of the handsome young men on the college campus.  He has several close encounters with Shane (Rocc)  a manipulative college senior who invites him to have intercourse and do things Damien doesn’t necessarily want to.  Damien eventually falls for Max (Darren Johnson),  Shane´s roommate.

Big lips, hungry mouths, erotically charged steamy sequences of sexual activity,  hot kissing and hugs among the protagonists are the visual highlights in this fiction that focus its interest in the two main characters, relatives themselves,  and to whom they are attracted.  A birthday celebration for Damien from his Friends includes Strip Poker and Truth or Dare games.

The movie, written by Tyson Anthony and directed by Anthony Bawn, is perfect for a summer night.
