Queerguru’s José Mayorga reviews ‘A DICE WITH FIVE SIDES’ : the outcome of a 1st date is determined by the roll of a dice

FOLLOW THE BEAT OF YOUR HEART OR DANCE FOREVER TO THE MUSIC OF FATE

A tale of two lovers, Marcello (Alexander Ananasso)  an intergalactic seducer, and Herman (Jake Garvey)  an aerospace engineer. After a sex date, both men engage in occasional encounters for a long period of time, which stretches some years during which they play with their fetish, a stone dice found in a flea market in Istanbul. It’s a promising premise that disappointedly doesn’t live up to its expectations.

The dice playing is linked to its legend about a nobleman in love with a slave freer than  his master enthralled by his love

We are introduced to the two protagonists wearing masks that take their time to remove, meanwhile they explore different versions of themselves, sometimes with unpredicted or annoying visitors.
Despite the good looks and charm of the actors, there is a lack of information on the inner nature and circumstances of the characters that doesn’t allow empathy with them, we get no idea of the lives they live nor the relationships they may have although being mentioned.  Marcello owns an apartment, a love nest eventually inhabited,  this is the place where he and Herman play with the dice forever.

Unexpectedly pleasant is the suggestive choreography by the end of the film. Suitable for a winter Sunday afternoon with a cocktail. Cheers!

The movie directed by Riccardo Tamburini is being released by TLA  streaming/DVD on March 23rd
