Queerguru’s Favorite Transgender Movies : 2020

Every January for the past few years the Queerguru team have gotten together to review our film reviews of the year.  We focus on all LGBTQ movies but particularly  try to see as many Transgender documentaries and feature films that get released.

We are thrilled to discover that each year there are more and more.  No two are ever the same, but each of them effectively adds to the continuing dialogue about the community.  Also they give visibility which we hope will foster a greater understanding and acceptance.

This year it’s refreshing to note that most of the films have such positive storylines and threads, and although life cannot always have an ’happy ending’ we are so encouraged when they do.

So here is our selection of TRANS MOVIES FROM 2020 : this year we are not calling them ‘the best’ but instead they are Queerguru’s Favorites, and here they are in alphabetical order.

ALICE JUNIOR’: a Trans teenager who  knows what she wants

JACK AND YAYA: the story of a remarkable  friendship

LINGUA FRANCA: the tale of an Undocumented Filipino Caregiver

NO ORDINARY MANthe story of Trans legend Billy Tipton

OUT LOUD : the birth of the  L.A. Trans Chorus

OUT OF TIME a family dealing with a 11 year olds transitioning *

SEAHORSE the Dad who gave Birth *

SIDNEY AND FRIENDS:  the lives of a group of intersex and trans youth in Kenya *

THE GARDEN LEFT BEHIND: an undocumented immigrants daily struggle to survive and transition in NY *

THE SOUND OF IDENTITY :how Lucia Lucas made Don Giovanni soar *

P.S. Not only can you find full reviews in all these movies (and some 1200 others) on www.queerguru.com, we also have filmed exclusive interviews with the filmmakers of the the films marked * above

PPS QUEERGURU is looking to expand its small team of Contributors this year, and are particularly looking for someone to write on transgender/non-binary issues. We pride ourselves as been quirky, unpredictable, irreverent,  witty, passionate, highly excitable and totally subjective,  The only thing we really take very serious are equal rights.   Although we currently have a readership of some 67K spread over 46 countries we are still advert- free and self funded  so we can make you more famous, but no richer.
