Queerguru reviews Michael Perez-Lindsey’s WILL I SEE YOU AGAIN having its World Premiere at Holly Shorts Film Fest

In just a few days Hollywood’s premiere short film festival HollyShorts kicks off its 20th Edition at the TCL Chinese Theater. This prestigious event is devoted to showcasing the best and brightest short films from around the globe  and where the movies could officially qualify for an Oscar

Its also well known to kick-off the  careers of new filmmakers which this year includes  Michael Perez-Lindsey whose debut short WILL I SEE YOU AGAIN? is having its World Premiere.

Its an intriguing heart-string-pulling queer drama about how the death of a close one can jump start the lives of others.   The story opens at the Funeral Service of Jim Turner and the priest Max Palmer (Hosea Chanchez) conducting the service was a very long-term close friend of the decreased.  Halfway through the eulogy a late comer enters the church.  He’s Paul (Nick Wechsler) who is an estranged  friend of both Jim and Max and it turns out is also a beneficiary named  in Jims Will.

When both he and Max meet at the Lawyers next morning for the Will reading they discover a codicil that Jim has insisted that must be obeyed to the letter if either  of them are  to inherit.  They have to ask each other 5 questions whilst they are both strapped to polygraph machines. If either of them fail to answer truthfully, then they will be disinherited.

It’s through this exchange we learn the real depth of the relationship which went sour many years ago., and how Max actually tried being straight, and went as far as marrying a woman,.  From beyond the grave their friend is now making them confront reality and see if there is anyway  they can reconcile.

Its a compelling story that does have you perched on the edge of the seat awaiting the final outcome.  There is nothing new in this tale of staying true to your convictions (and sexuality) but it has some great monologues in the script delivered beautifully by its two stars.
