Seems like summer 2022 is going to be quite a season of entertaining queer rom-coms. This is not a complaint just an observation and if the latest one My Fake Boyfriend is as cute as it appears on the trailer below, then count us in.
Andrew (Kelyman Lonsdale from ‘Love Simon‘) just can’t stay away from the toxic boyfriend who has just dumped him. Boy, have we all been there! But his two best friends decide to stage an intervention. Jake (Dylan Sprouse from ‘The Curse of Turandot‘) and Kelly (Sarah Hyland from Modern Family) decides to help him by creating a fake boyfriend they christen Cristiano.
Thanks to the power of green screens and photo swapping Cristiano is what many of us dream about and now as he is spread all over social media, all Andrew’s other friends congratulate him for landing such a hottie. The toxic ex-BF now actually gets jealous.
But then totally unexpected Andrew meets his real-life dream guy, Rafi (Samer Salem: Handmaids Tale) a charming restaurant owner. So the real fun begins when has to convincingly dump his fake boyfriend who suddenly seems to real.
Directed by award-winning Rose Troche (Go Fish) from a script by Luke Albright, Greg Boaldin and Joe Wanjai Ross it premieres June 17 on Amazon Prime.
