There is an inexplicable link between gay men and flamboyant larger than life women. Especially in the UK where eccentricity is a character trait that is both encouraged and even worshiped. These women are the epitome of queer, although nearly all of them are heterosexual albeit often convoluted. Sometimes labeled bohemian they are iconic divas and goddesses whose very lives make our own seem pale in comparison.
89-year-old Molly Parkin is one such woman. She is a painter, erotic novelist, and former fashion editor never without a jeweled turban on her head, and who is the epitome of British bohemianism. In her prime in London’s Swinging Sixties, it was hard to avoid her as she was not only writing the news, she was making it too.
Her real-life story is too incredible and difficult to swallow in parts, so much so that Hollywood would probably reject it as being too far-fetched. However, it was filmed in this eye-opening documentary in 2006 which captures the essence of this rather fabulous woman.
