Matthew Richardson : Queer Circus Art + Activism

It’s been two years since Queerguru last spoke with the incredibly talented Matthew Richardson a queer aerialist. What we especially loved about him was that as a performer he is dedicated to creating LGBTQ-based performance art to address social issues and hopefully inspire a kinder world.

Since we met Richardson was a finalist on America’s Got Talent with a very emotional piece that was a tribute to his late father.   Get a kleenex ready and watch HERE

Now Richardson has been working on a new project for the past year. He filmed it just before the pandemic hit and immediately put everything on hold. “BLUE” is a performance reflecting on gender identity and the struggles many of us face – when we don’t look or feel the way the world expects us to be. Featuring Zed Cézard – a part of his X Circus short film series.

An excited Richardson told us that he is so happy to finally present this beautiful film and to discuss the important topic of gender, and the rules we often set for boys vs. girls.

PLUS Richardson has LIVE ONLINE SHOWS happening!! Log in at 9pm, Sunday July 11th to watch him bring his previous films to life – LIVE. Where you’ll be able to ask questions with the artists after, get an inside look into the training and production side of things, AND learn more about the meaning of the acts and the stories of the artists. The goal of  X CIRCUS is to create more normalcy and a kinder world for the queer community.
