Hold Your Peace

Forrest and Max have only been dating a few months before they decide to have a Commitment Ceremony. Trouble is that Max seems to have few friends so the only person he can think to ask to stand as his best man is his ex-boyfriend Aiden. They haven’t seen each other since their bitter break-up but Janice their girlfriend sensing that there are still some ends to tie up here, persuades Aiden to accept.

He does so but insists that as he is single he has to find a date to accompany him as the last thing he wants anyone to think is that he is a loser. Yet he really is, as like Max he seems to have no male friends at all, so very reluctantly allows Jackie to fix him up Lance one of her colleagues to act as a ‘pretend’ boyfriend for the weekend.  Snag is that Aiden is dour, dull and bordering on miserable, whereas Lance is a very happy camp twink.

In real life this unlikely pair wouldn’t convince a blind Nun that they were a couple in love, but hey, this is the movies, so both Max and Forrest buy the story. With the four men under one roof there is so much tension you could cut the air with a knife. Control freak Forrest is micro-managing the wedding well but failing miserably to do the same with his fiance who shows not the slightest interest in their forthcoming nuptials.  Aiden is still carrying a big torch for Max but is too scared to speak up.  Lance on the other hand, has the hots for hunky Forrest the moment he clapped eyes on him and decides if Max isnt that keen on having him, then he is.

Thank God for Janice who’s now staying in a hotel up the road and with her constant witty banter provides some much needed light relief for all the boy’s melodrama that is about to implode any moment.

And then just when you thought it couldnt have gotten more improbable, it does and for the sake of having all the characters have a happy ending after all (even when we didnt particularly care) it gets too silly for words.

Shout out to Scott Higgins who despite having to play Lance as a stereotype twink, really shone through as did Aleisha Force playing Janice even though she had to suddenly discover she was a lesbian just before the final credits rolled.

If this part of a trend that focuses on gay marriage, then you may want to think seriously about staying single after watching this one.

Available now on VOD & DVD.
