Hava Nagila to the men of Haifa

queerquru’s favorite bi-monthly LGBT bookzine ELSKA that goes to a different major city to discover what the local real men are all about has been to the very diverse city of Haifa, in northern Israel for it’s latest issue. Elska editor Liam Campbell told us “We had more requests to do an issue in Israel than anywhere else . I’m certain most expected us to go to the huge gay hub that is Tel Aviv. It was important, especially in a politically sensitive place like Israel, that we be able to show diversity”.  He is not just talking about nationalities and religions but the men too

As is Elska’s policy  the men featured in come all shapes and sizes and ages and are photographed in the streets or in their homes, fully clothed or naked. Besides each picture in the magazine is that man’s story , told in his own words for the world to read.

“Most striking is how much the locals care for each other,” adds Campbell “All of them show pain, but they share their hope as well.”
