It’s never really been possible to have a gay old Christmas without watching at least one highly sentimental Hallmark movie. Even better nowadays when those movies now include a pair of hot gay hunks too. This new one stars out gay actor Jonathan Bennett no stranger to falling in love during the movies like The Christmas House which was the Channel’s first foray into featuring a same-sex marriage.
In The Holiday Sitter, Bennet plays Sam, a workaholic bachelor, who very reluctantly babysits his niece and nephew before the holidays. When he recruits help from their handsome neighbor Jason (played by out-gay actor George Krissa) and finds himself in an unexpected romance.
Whilst like most people we at Queerguru are happily celebrating and congratulating Hallmark for including our community in their programming, of course, there are others who hate us being happy. Former Hallmark queen Candace Cameron Bure said her new network, Great American Family, would be keeping “traditional marriage at the core” and not feature queer stories.
Of those who spoke out against Bure’s “traditional marriage” comments was 19-year-old JoJo Siwa, who wrote on Instagram, “Honestly, I can’t believe after everything that went down just a few months ago, that she would not only create a movie with intention of excluding LGBTQIA+, but then also talk about it in the press. This is rude and hurtful to a whole community of people.”
Bennett added “I’m just so proud to be on the Hallmark channel that’s making these movies for everyone because Christmas is for everyone and Hallmark channels are for everyone.”
