In a tacky backstreet gay Bar in Philadelphia 10 wannabee Chippendales are being whittled down to 5 finalists in a Go Go Boy Contest. None of have any real talent at all, but that seems somewhat irrelevant in this ill-conceived mockumentary that is meant to poke fun at the whole stripper boy culture. Each of the finalists are extreme stereotypes from a camp Russian ‘straight’ dancer who creates a ballet based on the time he was attacked by a bear to Vinnie from New Jersey (with the worst accent ever) who aspires to be a karaoke singer. And whilst their over-oiled near nude bodies may make them look hot, they are far from it.
This totally unfunny ‘comedy’ is the work of filmmaker Fred M Caruso (‘The Big Gay Musical’) who is also credited as being the screenwriter too, but my guess is that the piece is mainly improvised as that is the only reasonable explanation I can give for this excruciating script being lame to the point of even being annoying in part.
The Contest is compered by Hedda Lettuce a professional Drag Queen from NY who attempted to pepper her part with insults and riffs on competitors and judges alike. The trouble is when these are so completely un-amusing they just sound bitter and a tad tragic.
I sat through the whole (very long) 1 hour and 24 minutes to the end looking for something to redeem this unfortunate movie. For once, there wasn’t a single thing at all. But at least you will not have too now.
