Full Steam Ahead : two new queer TV shows that are going to get us all hot and bothered

Fellow Travelers

Red, White & Blue

Coming to Amazon on August 8th is the R-rated gay rom-com Red, White & Royal Blue.  This very steamy movie based on Casey McQuiston’s 2019 book of the same name follows the fictional US President’s son Alex as he is forced into a sham friendship with Prince Henry of England after their feud culminates in toppling over a royal wedding cake   However, these enemies turned fake friends become something much more romantic than either of them saw coming.

Matthew López (the multi-award winning writer of  The Inheritance) is making his directorial debut with Alex and Henry’s story He was also responsible for adapting the script from McQuiston’s book, together with writer Ted Malawer. It stars Taylor Zakhar Perez and  Nicholas Galitzine (Handsome Devil)  as well as supporting cast members such as Uma Thurman playing the President of the United States and Stephen Fry as the King.

We may have to wait for Fall to see FELLOW TRAVELERS a new 8-part  series  for SHOWTIME TV starring openly gay actors Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer, but here’s a teaser trailer to show you why we are so excited about it

Bailey and Bomer play political staffers in the 1950s Washington DC to the 1980s in the series which is an adaptation of Thomas Mallon’s 2007 novel of the same name.  In this 30-second teaser, we see snapshots of various moments from the series including fireworks, cameras flashing, a police raid, and Bailey and Bomer embracing in bed and kissing passionately in another shot.

Bailey recently told Vanity Fair that he’d wanted to do a “sweeping gay love story, but my experience actually was that I’d never really seen them. Or if I had, I hadn’t seen actors like me and Matt play those roles.”

Speaking of the gay sex scenes, Bailey said that they are “a meticulous examination of power.”  Then he added, “The nuance of a complicated, volatile queer relationship is the power balance—and that is what is amazing about Tim and Hawk.
