First glimpse of Cannes Grand Prix Winner CLOSE : a remarkably tender coming-of-age story from Lukas Dhont

This trailer for CLOSE from A24  Films landed in Queerguru’s intray the morning and went straight on to our MUST SEE List.  Not because it has just won this year’s CANNES GRAND PRIX  (ad rave reviews) but because we were immediately drawn into this remarkable tender and touching coming-of-age story.

Leo and Remi are two thirteen-year-old best friends, whose seemingly unbreakable bond is suddenly, tragically torn apart.  It is based on director and co-writer Lukas Dhont’s own experiences at school and tells the story of the friendship between two boys in their early teens.

Dhont’s debut feature film was Girl a drama film inspired by the story of Nora Monsecour which focuses on a trans girl pursuing a career as a ballerina.  it won the Caméra d’Or award for best first feature film, as well as the Queer Palm. and was selected as the Belgian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards.

Close stars Eden Dambrine, Gustav De Waele, Émilie Dequenne & Léa Drucker and will be coming to theaters soon.  We cannot wait.
