We just came across this sweet rom-com short movie from 2018 that reminds us that even in this day and age queer men are still ridiculed from within the community for embracing their feminine side too much. We kind of expect pseudo macho straight guys still to be overtly hostile as that is their cover-up for their own insecurities and even latent homosexuality, but not from our brothers
FEMME the film tackles the issue head on with wonderful humor too. This is the hilarious story of Carson a gay twenty-something and his journey to look for love which spirals after being turned away by a dating app hookup for being too effeminate. Having the film set in Hell’s Kitchen, a center gay New York City nightlife, brings home the reality of the pitfalls that await some queer man in the hookup app age.
Femme The Film is written by Corey Camperchioli who also stars as Carson and who roped in his friend Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvellous Mrs Maisel) as Executive Producer. Directed by Alden Peters and starring AJA, Stephanie Hsu, Derek Klena and Johnny Sibilly , this wee film adds to the continuing dialogue about gender identity and our hang-ups as gay men that we should all be aware and part of.
