Disco Limbo

Argentinian filmmakers Fredo Landaveri and Mariano Toledo feature film directing debut is a little like one long hallucinatory trip.  There is a vague story line to the narrative which is not that easy to follow, but somehow that doesn’t seem to the point of this rambling and rather bizarre avant-garde piece that looks like it was made by Film Students for their graduation class.

David falls in love with Lucio at first sight at a party but almost immediately Lucio disappears in the crowd and so David sets out to find him.  His search however is more a journey about his own self-discovery which he needs to go through if he is ever to win Lucio’s heart, and it is one that starts on the dance floor but then ends in the mountains.

The movie is a mish-mash of rather manic video art and flashing screens and neon images and all in different languages. Peppered with pop songs and very oddball characters it is somewhat overloaded with constantly changing images trying to be surreal but just ending up as downright weird.

Disco Limbo is the type of movie that will definitely test your patience by pushing it to its very limits, and is probably best viewed when you are either intoxicated or stoned.
