Queerguru joins the partygoers at the Winter Party on Miami Beach and …….well

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , ,

Miami Beach is a real party town and one of the very best is the annual WINTER PARTY FESTIVAL. This year is destined to be even better than usual as they are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the organizers the National LGBTQ Task Force. This week-long festival……from March 1st – 7th…. is an annual dance and music festival that will feature a fabulous diverse mix of people, music, and entertainment.

We sent the QUEERGURU to check out the Sunday Afternoon Beach Party where the dress code is ‘wear minimum or less.’ . The only snag was that when the Bars opened our Team swapped their cameras for cocktails and never looked back. So the film has plenty of scantily clad bodies but none of the dancing. I’m told that’s what you get when don’t pay Sunday Overtime..

After Queerguru covered a lot of the fab World Pride/Mardi Gras in Sydney Australia last month, we wanted to turn our focus to the Mother of All Carnivals In RIO DE JANEIRO. During the Pandemic the City put the celebrations on hold but NOW IT’S BACK BIG TIME.

Queerguru’s newest correspondent MIKE ROLOFF was so happy to be back in Brazil, and here’s a wee slice of Carnival seen through his lens

Mark Farrelly talks about his two hit plays about queer icons QUENTIN CRISP and DEREK JARMAN

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , , , , ,

Mark Farrelly is a Brit actor and writer who has created and starred in three stunning plays about three remarkable queer icons. He has performed them to great acclaim in the West End and on Tour over 400 times now. He is about to bring a double bill of them to London’s Wiltons Music Hall and so Queerguru talked with him about QUENTIN CRISP; NAKED HOPE and also JARMAN … about the artist, film-maker, gardener and activist Derek Jarman

Both Crisp and Jarman were influential figures in the evolution of the queer movement and helped many of us shape our own queer destinies.

Writer Liam Sesay talks about MERBOY a queer retelling of The Little Mermaid

MERBOY – A QUEER RETELLING OF THE LITTLE MERMAID is a semi-autobiographical play by writer and producer Liam Sesay about the sexual awakening of a mixed-race, queer boy. Peppered with 60s love songs, this heart-warming camp tale gives hope to anyone who doesn’t feel like they belong Merboy combines the fantasy world of fairy tale with the dramatic yearnings of 1960s girl band music from iconic groups including The Shangri-las, The Crystals and The Ronettes. While dealing with deep themes of gay shame, family honor, and self-worth through poetic verse, visual storytelling, and lip-synching.

This exciting new production is inspired by both the famous fairy tale and intimate letters from Hans Christian Anderson to his friend Edvard Collin. Merboy examines the echoes of cautionary tales told by parents to their children, as well as the dangers of loving too much.

Liam Sesay talked with QUEERGURU on the eve of the Show’s premiere at the Omnibus Theatre in London

In Bed With Myra Dubois

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , , ,

Usually, when one of the Queerguru team ‘falls in love” working on the Blog, it’s with some impossibly good-looking man/up-and-coming actor/lifeguard/model etc ….. you get the drift.  However this time our (happily married) Editor In Chief has fallen for a hilariously quick-witted woman with the most wicked sense of humor.  This Brit woman hailing from a working class  (and dare we say ‘uninspiring’) town has taken the world by storm.  We caught up with her in Australia where she is undertaking another Sold Out Tour that will end in Sydney for World Pride

MYRA DUBOIS is an actress, author, wellness guru, energy worker, and ‘enthusiastic singer’ whose acerbic wit has carved her a unique place as an unlikely queer icon. Miss Dubois is ‘old-school’ from England’s North who started on the Burlesque circuit working her way up and has trod the boards of such prestigious stages as the London Palladium, the London Hippodrome, the Royal Festival Hall, and the Soho Theatre to name but four. Her wicked sense of humor is delivered unfiltered at rapid speed: and she simply takes no prisoners and this has given her a loyal worldwide fan base.

QUEERGURU finally caught up with the charismatic Myra Down Under …. and we should warn that you will find her charm too infectious not to be swept up under her spell.
