The T : being accepted for who we are

The T is a six-part queer drama web series from Chicago that set out with a mission to portray rarely seen members of the LGBTQ+ community in a story about their search for love, truth and acceptance that would be thoroughly entertaining..  Kudos to Bea Cordelia and Daniel Kyri the creators, producers and stars for winning in our hearts with this heartwarming tale they made and  with such excellent production values.

Cordelia plays Jo a young trans female who’s best friend  is her ex-gay lover Carter played by Kyri. Even though they have moved to the friends zone, one drunken New Years Eve Jo is left wondering if their passionate kiss at the stroke of midnight didn’t mean they could resume a romantic relationship too.

However when Carter explains It isn’t going to happen. Jo runs off in the middle of the night to Robin her f— buddy  and doesn’t speak with Carter for over a month.  The next time they meet is when he goes to the HIV Clinic where she works to get tested. which is another life-changing moment.

Carter comes from a conservative African/American family headed  by his Father a Pastor and so he left home when he felt he could no longer hide is sexuality.  He has been searching for acceptance and love ever since.

Jo meanwhile is flattered when Robin wants to change from being a one-night stand to a boyfriend, but is soon dismayed when she realises that can only happen she will successfully ‘pass’ as a conventional girlfriend. when they meet his family.

The writing is pointedly subtle and with the sheer lack of the usual histrionics, you can see for once how completely refreshing it is when we can tell our own stories   It is not only original and authentic but it powerfully shows how our lives can be when we will only settle for being our true selves.

With finely nuanced performers from the lead actors who show a great chemistry, plus all the supporting roles, this wee gem was a sheer joy to watch.

We can’t wait for Season Two
