TOM GOSS one of our favorite queer singer/songwriters always wears his heart on his sleeve as his work embraces subject matter that he feels passionate. In this instance his rather heartbreaking new music video shines a light on domestic violence a topic that our community too often likes to refuse to acknowledge its very existence
The title “La Bufadora” is the name of a marine geyser in the waters near Ensenada.and Goss used it as a metaphor for a very tension-filled and emotional rollercoaster weekend in Mexico with his husband Mike Briggs that inspired this song.
Playing his part of Briggs is the wonderful Mean Girls actor Danny Franzese who does a great job in playing his part in all the verbal abuse as well as physical assault of the weekend
Goss said that they had created the video in order to shine a line on how LGBTQ people are not exempt from domestic abuse. In fact, according to the National Coalition of Domestic Violence, the rates of abuse can be even higher than among straight people.
“Oftentimes queer art only celebrates the romance or lust of relationships,” said Franzese. “But this particular video, combined with the other I have shot for this album, Tom is exploring all the different facilities of relationships. This includes the dark side of domestic abuse, which isn’t often seen.
Proceeds from the video will support the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233) and the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Intimate Partner / Domestic Violence Outreach.
