The Lure of Provincetown : a new Exhibit

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , , ,

South Florida has always been a home from home for many LGBT residents of Provincetown who like to swap the sometimes brutal winters for the sunshine state. Now The Stonewall National Museum & Archives in Wilton Manors has a new exhibition called The Lure of Provincetown
that takes a look at the history of why people still flock back every summer without fail.

Featuring photographs by the late Al Kaplan, who arrived in P Town in 1961 aged 18 and for the next five years recorded the community that he was at the center of. Midge Battelle’s photographs are from the 1990’s when she recorded the annual Dyke Drag Brunch that takes place during P Town’s Womensweek. They are joined by art from Len Paoletti who before he retired to Fort Lauderdale ran a couple of P Town guest houses whilst practicing his art.  Paoletti is best known for his canvasses on scenes at the Boatslip Tea-Dances which have a distinct 1980’s feel to them.

queerguru P.T.V’s roving reporter who winters in Miami Beach caught up with Chris Rudisill, Stonewall Museum’s Executive director to get the low-down on why he thinks there is such a bond between the two towns.

Mackenzie Miller: fulfilling their Dream

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , , ,

Nine years ago Mackenzie Miller left BIG-CITY living to move to Provincetown on the tip of Cape Cod an idyllic gay mecca that is overflowing in the summer and then dwindles down to just a few thousand in winter when the weather can be unforgiving. However, this rather magical town has a long history of encouraging all forms of artists to follow their dreams and that is exactly what Mackenzie has done so exceedingly well as they now revel in being able to perform for a living.

Queerguru caught up with them on the eve of their latest show 420 HEEENNNY 2.0 HD  at the Crown And Anchor when they shares the stage with Austin Tyler, Mona Mour, Jonathan Hawkins, Anne Hutchinson, Roxy Pops, Hamilton Fish, Lady Prism, Abby Cummings, Oya Crystal, and João Pedro Santos

Legendary photographer and one of the very best queer raconteurs ever,  Michael Childers has a whole history steeped in old glamorous Hollywood, plus his stint working with Andy Warhol etc etc

YET he lives very much for the present: we caught him when he came to Ptown (via Palm Springs/Paris/Provence) where he has a whole wealth of friends who know him as a gay Kevin Bacon ……all of us are just six separations away from him and each other. Check out what he had to say to Queerguru.

Michael DiMartino moved to PTown with his husband to paint. However, when he found a studio in Whalers Wharf this multifaceted artist changed his mind and bought a sewing machine. The result is Pillow Top Store brimming with DiMartino’s eclectic collection of pillows and cushions that within just 3 weeks has become a must-see destination for every ‘top’ and ‘bottom’ in town.

Queerguru joined the line to talk to DiMartino about how the Store is helping him follow his dream.  The interview conducted by Roger Walker-Dack was filmed by Dan Desjardins
