Brandon Cordeiro talks about RIBBONS @PIFF16

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels ,

queerguru talks to openly gay actor-turned-director Brandon Cordeiro about his highly-personal heart-tugging short movie about a difficult passage in the history of the evolution of the LGBT community here in P.Town. Cordeiro born and bred in P Town took he title Ribbons from those that are hung blowing in the wind at the Town’s annual Swim For Life which is both a fundraiser and a celebration of the lives of the very many we lost to the AIDS pandemic.

The interview for PTV is part of our coverage of Provincetown International Film Festival #PIFF16 where Ribbons is having its East Coast Premiere.

C. Fitz talks about Jewel’s Catch One

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels ,

For 42 years Jewel Thais-Williams ran Catch One  the first African-American female-owned disco in Los Angeles which provided an inclusive, exuberant and one-of-a-kind environment for gays of color to party in. It became so much more that as Jewel sought to offer a welcoming alternative, a place for expression and celebration that was a refuge from daily discrimination.  This fiercely independent woman battled through years of harassment to survive and prosper and even when it became the place-to-go for stars like Madonna she still focused on looking after the local community.

This remarkable and large-than-life pioneer and her club is the subject of a brand new documentary that is having its World Premiere at The Provincetown International Film Festival  and to mark the occasion queerguru sat down to talk to the film’s director C. Fitz. for PTV.  Here is just a teaser trailer of our conversation ….. more to come later.

The Calamari Sisters Shop for (Big) Sausages

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels , , ,

queerguru bumped into Delphine and Carmela : infamously known in these parts as The Calamari Sisters …. who were out shopping for big meaty sausages in the most unlikely places in P Town. These Italian gals have escaped their native Brooklyn for the summer to perform in their new all-singing, all dancing, all-talking, all-cooking SausageFest Show at the Sage Inn & Lounge .

Watch how these hilarious naive (!!!) pair find all sorts of new uses in the kitchen for what they find on the shelves of The Toys of Eros store, before they go hound Shane at Connie’s Bakery to see if his dough still rises.

Filmed by Amy Davies & Rik Ahlberg for P.T.V.

Check It @ #PIFF16

Posted on Categories queerguru.tvLabels ,

1‘Check It’ is a powerful and somewhat shocking new documentary about a ‘gang’ of gay and transgender kids in one of Washington DC’s most notoriously tough neighborhoods who collectively decide to fight back against all the physical and mental abuse that is heaped on them as they strive to simply survive. A couple of adult activists offer them a glimmer of hope for a better future. Directed by Dana Flor and Toby Oppenheimer, the movie is being shown as part of Provincetown International Film Festival #PIFF16 and is reviewed here by queerguru for PTV.
